Joe Sewell was one of the most amazing players in baseball history. He played for the Cleveland Indians from 1920 to 1930 and for the New York Yankees from 1931 to 1933. His career lasted 14 seasons in which he played in 1,903 games with 7,132 at bats and 2,246 base hits and a .312 career batting average.
The most amazing statistic was that Joe Sewell struck out only 114 times in his career, which is an average of one strikeout every 63 times at bat. The last nine years of his career he averaged less than 10 strikeouts per season while playing almost every game. He had a 1,103 consecutive playing streak.
Joe Sewell was elected to the Basball Hall of Fame in 1977 by the Veterans Committee and died on March 6, 1990.
